Gov Kay Ivey toured Lee County today. In the memory of those lost, flags were ordered at half-mast through March 10th. Governor and 30+year Rotarian Kay vows that the town will not be forgotten and with everyone’s help, the community will rebuild.
As to “hands on ” help and supply needs, this comment was made in response to an announcement that a warehouse was opening for supplies in Smith Station area.
“April Edwards.. I can confirm that we have more toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, diapers, wipes, formula, water, distilled water shampoo, etc than will ever be needed. It is an amazing response but please do not donate more at this time. If it was my donation and my hard earned money, I would want it to go to great use. I know the plastic totes are currently being collected.
Another Rotarian friend PE Neal shared that a team of workers with chainsaws were turned away at this time, but bulldozers are welcome.

President Nate from the Opelika Club has been in contact with the Columbus GA Club. Columbus RC has an event this weekend and expect to have bottled water, and individually wrapped snacks left over from the event that will be donated to feed first responders and other people in need. Nate has a call with the president this afternoon to coordinate.
Contributions are being collected from one club at a time.

“Our club is soliciting individual cash donations and our club will match up to a certain amount and do what we can. We have a deadline of next Thursday, March 14th. We will be sending it to the District Foundation. Thank you for the updates.”
DGN Brenda Walker from College Station, TX, expressed
the sentiments of so many who just want to help in some way. Her District 5910 is one of many that are MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
In a slight irony, today was the regularly scheduled emergency preparedness siren test. Great care was made to insure that residents knew. The skies were blue and temps in the 60’s. Night time lows in the 20s.
The Lee County EMA deserves a lot of credit for the response to this disaster along with many charities and individuals. The team includes Kathy Carson, Director;Johnny Langley, Deputy Director; James Sanders, Communications; Rita Smith, PR; Jeremy Jones, Training.
The law enforcement team has also done an amazing job in keeping order and protecting property. The Sheriff’s Office warned citizens that with disasters often comes all kinds of scams from promises of money to unauthorized services.
