Essay Contest

Essay Theme:  The Rotary 4 Way Test

The Rotary 4 Way Test Essay Competition is designed to instill truth, fairness, goodwill, and friendship with all those that are exposed to these values that Rotary holds so dear.

The target group for the 4 Way Test Essay Competition will be Middle School 7th and 8th grade students.

Rotary Clubs in District 6880 will be encouraged to enlist the Middle School 7th and 8th grade students in their respective communities to submit a 1,000 word essay on the value of living the Rotary 4 Way Test.

Each Rotary Club receiving essays will select, in their opinion, the best essay.

The selected essay from each Club will forward, to their respective Assistant Governor, their selections.

Each Area of the11 Assistant Governors, with assistance from a selection group, will identify the best of the best 4 Way Test Essay from their area.

The 11 selected District Area 4 Way Test Essay Competition winner essays will be evaluated and judged by a District Evaluation Committee selected by the District 4 Way Test Competition Chair.

The final selected 4 Way Test Competition Essay will be recognized through-out the District in the District Webpage, Facebook, District Newsletter and a news release submitted to the winner’s hometown news media. A special presentation and certificate will be awarded during the hometown Rotary Club meeting.

A $500 prize  will be awarded to the essay winner and oral competition winner. The recipient will highly encouraged to use the prize money expenses  upon entry into a college, university, or trade school.

Other benefits:  During the competition process, the entire community will be exposed to the Rotary 4 Way Test.

Requirements:  Arial font, size 12pt, and single spacing

Forms and Guidelines:

Each Rotary Club may enter one essay.

Entries must be received on or before (TBA).

Each entry should be submitted as one file with a cover page/entry form signed by the sponsoring Rotary Club President.

Essay contest entries will be judged by the District Essay Contest Judging Panel.

Winner will be announced TBA.

Each Area winner of the 4 Way Test SPEECH contest will be encouraged to participate in the District 4 Way Test Speech Contest.  Contestants, who must be in Middle School, will speak on the Rotary theme: Life Values Discovered in the Rotary 4 Way Test. Each Area District Assistant Governor will submit the participating speech winners to the 4 Way Test Chair.

Speech Contest Key Dates:

TBA: Assistant Governors enter student from their Area in District level contest
TBA: District Level Final Speech Contest

The sponsoring Rotary Club will cover the cost of the student’s participation, coordinate the student’s attendance, and attend with their student at the District Level Final Speech Contest.

Substance Abuse Prevention

District Essay  Competition

The Rotary Menace of Addiction Competition is designed bring to participants attention the horrors and tragedies of substance abuse among our population and specifically our young.

The target group for the Menace of Addiction Competition will be 7th and 8th Grade Students.

Contestants, who must be in grades 10, 11, or 12, will speak on:

Speech Theme: The Menace of Addiction, how it impacts the youth of our society and how does it influence your life?  Can drug use in young people be prevented?

Each Club should hold a contest and select their winners. Club first place winners advance to the area contest held by Assistant Governors. Each first place winner in the Area contests will advance to compete in the District Final Contest. First, second and third place winners of the District Finals will receive cash awards: $400 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third.

The sponsoring Rotary Club will cover the cost of the student’s participation, coordinate the student’s attendance, and attend with their student at the District Level Final Speech Contest.
