AVENUES OF SERVICE AWARD
The Avenues of Service Citation For Individual Rotarians provides a way for presidents of Rotary clubs to
personally recognize one club member for his or her outstanding efforts In the five Avenues of Service. A
club member must have demonstrated support of the object of Rotary through active participation In each of
the five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International, and Youth Service. Nominees must
be an active Rotarian and can only receive the Award oncel
CLUB BULLETIN AWARD
The Club Bulletin Award is given annually to a small, a medium, and a large size club with the best rated
club bulletin. Awards will be presented for both paper and electronic newsletters. Clubs may apply for an
award in only one format. Selection is determined by evaluating three paper or electronic club
bulletins, dated at least 5 weeks apart, based on the following criteria
EXEMPLARY CLUB AWARD
The Exemplary Club Award is given annually to a small, a medium, and a large size club in recognition of overall
excellence. Selection is determined by evaluating overall membership growth, average meeting attendance, service
projects, club bulletin, The Rotary Foundation Giving, and PolioPlus support
CLUB WEBSITE AWARD
The Club Website Award will be given annually to a small, a medium, and a large size club with the best rated
website. Selection is determined by evaluating the club website based on the following criteria:
SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Information about the club (service projects, member news and recognitions, budgets, etc. 30% 2. Information
about past, current, and upcoming programs and speakers of the club. 20% 3. Information about Rotary International
and The Rotary Foundation. 20% 4. Information about activities of the district, including items from the District
Governor’s Newsletter. 10% 5. Appearance – attractiveness, formatted so that it is easy to navigate, read and
understand. 10% 6. Other – community news, anecdotes, inspiration, humor, links, etc. 10% Total 100
EACH ROTARIAN ROKO AWARD
The Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One Award allows Club Presidents to nominate and Recognize individuals for sponsoring new members while focusing on retention.
CLUB OF DISTINCTION
The Club of Distinction Award is presented to all clubs which earn the Rotary International Presidential Citation. The
award recognizes the efforts of those Rotary Clubs in District 6880 who meet the citation requirements set by the
Rotary International President to attain the membership goal, and required Club service, Vocational service,
Community service, International service, and Youth activities.
STEVE JAMES YOUTH SERVICE AWARD
Steve James Youth Service Award was established in 2015 in honor of Steve James who had a unfailing
commitment to Rotary and especially young people. Steve served as Secretary and President of the Jackson Club.
He also sponsored his beloved interact club. On the District level he was cochair of the Rotary Youth Leadership
Academy (RYLA) and facilitated the Leadership Academy in 2013. Steve received the Rotary International
Vocational Award. Steve was honored as Jackson Citizen of the Year in 2015. Steve passed in 2016. The Steve
James Award for Distinguished Youth Service recognizes the individual who has contributed to the overall betterment
of youth in their community and around the District by exemplary service and a cheerful heart
DOUG BARBER AWARD
The Douglas O. Barber Award was established in 1998 by District Governor William P. McLemore (1998-99). His purpose in establishing the award was to recognize Rotarians or Rotary Clubs in District 6880 who serve the District
with the philosophy and spirit of unselfish volunteer service. Governor Bill named the award for Past District Governor Doug Barber (1996-97), a member of the Rotary Club of Foley, whose life characterized this generous spirit.
The Douglas O. Barber Award is recognized as the second highest honor conveyed by District 6880.
HENRY HARRISON LONGEVITY AWARD
The Henry Harrison Award recognizes of senior members of Rotary and their long service with their clubs, districts, zones and / or Rotary International. While Rotary rightly focuses on youth to join the organization, it wants those young adults to join for life. Attracted to the principles of Rotary, Harrison was just such a young man and he dedicated his life to service to his country, his family, his church, his community and Rotary.
SOCIAL MEDIA AWARD
The Social Media Award was established in 2013 by District Governor Jim Golson (2012-13) to recognize Clubs
meeting the challenge of communicating in new ways. The Award is given to a small, a medium, and a large size club
with the most active and diverse page using social media (Facebook, Linkedin and/or Twitter). Selection is
determined by evaluating the social media based on the following criteria.
N. Wayne Simms ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR
Each year, many Rotary Clubs set apart an outstanding member with a Rotarian of the Year Award. If your club does so, please provide the District Awards Committee the name of your award winner, and a little background information, so that we may recognize him or her during District Conference.
Additionally, a list of all District 6880 Rotarian of the Year Award winners will be published in the June issue of the District Governor’s Newsletter.
The N. Wayne Simms Rotarian of the Year Award gives the District Governor an opportunity to review each Club’s Rotarian of the Year recipient and from this list of outstanding Rotarians, select one to receive the N. Wayne Simms Rotary of the Year Award.
We encourage all Clubs to submit their Club Rotarian of the Year Award winner. Only one Club Rotarian of the Year Award should be submitted.
JERRY BRUNSON UNSUNG HERO AWARD
The Jerry Brunson Unsung Hero Award was established in 2004 by District Governor Robert C. Rudder (2003-04).
He established the award to recognize the efforts of Rotarians in District 6880 who serve their community and/or Rotary Club for years “in the trenches” with little or no fanfare. Governor Bob understood the invaluable contributions provided by these “anonymous” workers toward success in attaining the goals and ideals of the district as expressed in Rotary International’s Motto – Service Above Self
J BARTON GREER CITIZENSHIP AWARD
This Award was established by Past District Governor Robert A. Greer in honor of his grandfather who was the epitome of an example of living the Four Way Test. J. Barton Greer was a Paul Harris Fellow and President of the Mobile Rotary club in 1933‐34. Robert’s brother J. Barton Greer, III (Rotarian & Paul Harris Fellow) was inspired by his grandfather and wrote the book titled, “The Four Way Test” which
illustrates its principals.
HARRY P. HALL MERIT AWARD
The Harry P. Hall Meritorious Award was established in 1981 by District Governor Charles H. Chapman (1981-82),
and 1977 Charter President of the Rotary Club of Dothan-Houston County. His purpose in beginning the award was
to recognize Rotarians in District 688 (now 6880) who exemplify the motto of Rotary International in a distinguished and significant manner. Governor Charles chose to name the award for Past District Governor Harry P. Hall (1941- 42), a member of the Rotary Club of Dothan. At the time DG Harry served as governor, the district number was 164, and it covered the entire state of Alabama.
FAMILY - COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
The Family & Community Service Award Is a certificate that Rotary clubs may confer on individuals or organizations for outstanding service to families and communities, or in
recognition of the positive contributions to individual Rotary clubs made by spouses or family members of Rotarians.
